The performance of the country’s agriculture and fisheries sector can be measured by the year-on-year growth rates of GVA in AFF. GVA refers to the difference between the gross output and intermediate consumption used in the production process.

In 2024, the GVA in AFF at constant 2018 prices declined by 1.5 percent from the 1.2 percent increment in 2023. The crops industry experienced a 3.7% decrease in GVA in 2024, a reversal from the 1.0% growth in 2023. Most crops, including palay and corn, experienced negative growth of 4.8 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively. Sugarcane (9.3%), cassava (7.1%), and rubber (4.7%) experienced higher contractions. Forestry and logging saw the largest growth at 25.3%, while poultry and egg production saw improvements at 6.5 %. On the other hand, livestock experienced declines at 4.0% and fishing and aquaculture at 0.8%.

In terms of share of the industries to the GVA in AFF at constant 2018 prices, crops accounted for the largest with 50.6 percent. Palay remained the primary contributor at 20.6 percent, followed by banana, corn, other crops (onion, eggplant, calamansi), and coconut, including copra. Support activities to AFF, poultry and egg production, and fishing and aquaculture contributed 11.8 percent, 1.6 percent, and 11.4 percent, respectively, to the GVA in AFF.

Regional data show that seven regions posted annual increases in GVA in AFF, with Central Visayas (5.4%) and Eastern Visayas (4.0%) recording the fastest growth. Meanwhile, most regions experienced contractions, with the largest decreases observed in the Negros Island Region (-10.3%), Western Visayas (-7.3%), and MIMAROPA Region (-5.3%).
