A sequel of the completed GHG inventory study in 2019, this study conducted the GHG inventory of the entire ITP production chain in selected sites in Mindanao. This project aims to promote sustainable forest management and help mitigate climate change.
The project established 70 sample plots across the CARAGA Region to measure carbon stocks in tree biomass, soil, and other carbon pools and surveyed 21 wood processing plants to assess their GHG emissions. Key findings revealed that electricity consumption was the largest source of emissions which contributed 25,172.29 Mg CO2e, followed by solid and liquid waste with 661.81 Mg CO2e, and fuel consumption with 1,483.54 Mg CO2e.
Similar to the previous phase of the project, a capacity building initiative was also done through a series of GHG inventory trainings for DENR, LGU, and academic staff. Lastly, a GHG calculator for secondary wood processing was also developed to support the Net Zero Initiative of the government.
