Chapter 6 of the Compendium of Philippine Environment Statistics published by PSA includes environmental protection and resource management expenditure, environmental governance and regulation, extreme event preparedness and disaster management, and environmental information and awareness. The statistics under this component are connected to the adaptation and mitigation thematic areas of the Global Set of Climate Change Statistics and Indicators (GSCCSI). Environmental protection activities focus on preventing and reducing pollution and environmental degradation, while resource management activities aim to preserve and sustain natural resources. In 2025, total government environmental protection expenditures reached PhP 24.32 billion, an increase of 1.7 percent from PhP 23.91 billion in 2024. The largest share of expenditures was allocated to environmental protection, not elsewhere classified, at PhP 9.21 billion or 37.9 percent of the total, followed by biodiversity and landscape protection at PhP 8.83 billion or 36.3 percent, and pollution abatement expenditures at PhP 2.77 billion or 11.4 percent.

The chapter also highlights the importance of environmental governance and regulation in strengthening national responses to environmental challenges. This subcomponent emphasizes the role of institutional capacity and regulatory frameworks in guiding both government and private sector engagement toward environmental protection and sustainable development. Environmental regulations and policy instruments, based on the Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES) 2013, include direct regulatory measures such as environmental laws, standards, and enforcement mechanisms, as well as economic instruments like green/environmental taxes, environmental subsidies, eco-labelling, and certification and emission permits.
Moreover, the chapter discusses extreme event preparedness and disaster management, which focus on minimizing loss of life and economic damage through disaster risk reduction initiatives, infrastructure, and public and private assistance before, during, and after disasters. In addition, the chapter underscores the importance of environmental information and awareness in promoting pro-environmental behavior among the public and decision-makers. These data help assess the availability, trends, and impacts of awareness initiatives, informing policy design and implementation. While increasing awareness can encourage sustainable practices, it must be supported by appropriate policies and alternatives.
