Under the Save our Seas Initiative, the Clean Cities, Blue Ocean (CCBO) – USAIDā€™s global flagship program started the Women in Wasteā€™s Economic Empowerment (WWEE) activity. This aims to provide empowerment trainings as well as funding and mentorship opportunities to women while supporting their own families, thus contributing to our countryā€™s economy.

WWEE developed an integrated approach to empower women as leaders in local emerging circular economies. The five-step approach contains (1.) Basic Business, Gender and Personal Empowerment Skills Training, (2.) Business Plan Development, (3.) Access to Blended Financing, (4.) Advanced Business Skills Training, and (5.) Increased market access.

It also promotes sustainability in partnership with local grantee organizations and implementing partners, curriculum development and training partners, private sector, local government, and national training and education agencies. Sustainable solutions to minimize ocean plastics include the improvement of waste management methods and creation of circular economies city by city.Ā
