The Philippine Statistics Authority has released the 2023 Compendium of Philippine Environments Statistics, featuring Chapter 6: Environmental Protection, Management, and Engagement. This chapter compiles data on expenditures related to environmental protection and resource management.

Chapter 6 of the 2023 Compendium of Philippine Environments Statistics published by PSA includes local, regional, and central government expenditures primarily for environmental protection and resource management, sourced from official government finance statistics in budget and administrative reports. Environmental protection activities are government initiatives to prevent pollution and degradation, while resource management activities focus on preserving natural resources and reducing their withdrawal, thereby preventing depletion.Ā
Environmental protection expenditures are categorized by activity, including waste management, wastewater management, pollution abatement, protection of biodiversity and landscape, research and development, and others, as well as by department and state university or college.

In 2023, the total government environmental protection expenditures was PhP 21.89 billion, a decrease of 8.1% from PhP 23.83 billion in 2022. The 39.8% of the governmentās expenditures on environmental protection was allocated to the protection of biodiversity and landscapes. Environmental protection expenditures that were not otherwise categorized made up the second largest expenditure of PhP 6.54 billion or 29.9% of the total expenditures. This was followed by waste management expenditures, which amounted to PhP 3.04 billion, representing 13.9% of the total government environmental expenditures in 2023.
