Innovative Solutions to a Green Mountain Economy

Shaping green and inclusive mountain economies requires understanding the implications of rapid socioeconomic, climate and environmental change on mountain livelihoods and delivering inclusive solutions for marginalized mountain communities.

In collaboration with the Government of Nepal and the Green Resilient Agriculture Productive Ecosystems (GRAPE), ICIMOD organized an international conference and expo on resilient solutions to facilitate innovative solutions and investment opportunities for a green mountain economy. Participants included experts from the private and public sectors, international organizations, community-based organizations, youth, entrepreneurs, and developmental partners. The conference aimed to discuss and assess potential solutions for sustainable transitions. Notable resilient solutions highlighted during the event encompassed resilience building, innovation, and regional cooperation/partnerships.

Resilience was acknowledged as a shared goal at the global, national, and community levels, with global financial security emerging as a universal concern. Emphasizing “not just adaptation, but inclusive adaptation for all,” an opportunity exists to upscale local solutions to a regional level. To achieve this, continuous development of innovative solutions, establishment of policies, and securing funding and investments are imperative. Furthermore, prioritizing regional cooperation and research to introduce nature-based solutions and sustainable financing is essential while concurrently preserving the region’s rich traditional knowledge.
