With the enormous opportunity in bangus fry requirement of the province and competitive advantage in terms of location, the ALT Hatchery and Aquaventures, in Panabo CIty aims to achieve higher production in succeeding years as it plans to increase the number of bangus broodstock and improve its technical capabilities through the assistance of DOST-PCAARRD and UPV. Existing infrastructure are already established with a capacity to produce of up to 5-10 million bangus fry per year. The company desires to improve its existing capabilities on bangus hatchery management to generate more jobs and sustain the bangus grow-out and fingerlings production in the Province. To fully operationalize the ALT Hatchery project, research will be carried out to improve the milkfish broodstock management and increase egg production through testing of different water exchange volumes and feeding rates. Additionally, to provide an alternative for live algae in rotifer production, trials will be performed to determine the effect of algal paste fed rotifer on the growth and survival of milkfish fry. Finally, to increase the milkfish fry production of ALT Hatchery, research will be implemented to evaluate the effect of different larvae stocking densities and the use of probiotics on the growth and survival of fry.
The study desires to improve the milkfish fry production of ALT Hatchery in Panabo City, Davao del Norte particularly to assess the effect of different daily water exchange volume and feeding rates of milkfish broodstock on egg production, determine the effect of algal paste fed rotifer on the growth and survival of milkfish fry, and evaluate the effect of different larvae stocking densities and use of probiotics on the growth and survival of milkfish fry.
