This study dealt on the extraction and characterization of lignin from three Industrial Tree Plantation Species (ITPS) namely: Falcata (Falcataria moluccana (Miq.) Barneby & J.W. Grimes.), Yemane (Gmelina arborea Roxb.) and Mangium (Acacia mangium Willd.). Pulping, centrifugation, filtration and drying procedures were done to obtain lignin. Using fourier transform infrared radiation spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), proved the successful modification of lignin through acetylation and epoxidation. The modification also reduced the glass transition temperature of raw lignin and affected its thermal behavior.
