Pinoy S&T Services for Farmers and Entrepreneurs Program (PSF): Magsasaka Siyentista-Led Community-Based Coconut And Banana Farming Systems In Davao Del Norte

This project aims to promote the Integrated Crop Management and Good Agricultural Practices in banana and coconut farming system in Typhoon Pablo-affected municipalities of Davao del Norte through the Magsasaka-Siyentista-led approach. This project is under the S&T Based Agriculture, Coastal and Rural Rehabilitation Program for Typhoon Pablo victims in Region XI. The project falls under the program component of rehabilitation of cropping systems and restoration of the agroecology in typhoon stricken communities. This Magsasaka Siyentista-led project on coconut and banana farming systems will be implemented in ‘Typhoon Pablo’ stricken areas in Kapalong, Asuncion and Tagum City in Davao del Norte. The project will involve 33 affected farmers to establish a 0.25 hectare each or a total of 8.25 hectares of coconut and banana farming systems to help them recover from the devastation brought by Typhoon Pablo. The existing tissue culture laboratory of SPAMAST (undergoing initial repair) will provide the required tissue cultured planting materials for the project’s future expansion. Initial project requirements for banana planting materials will be bought from Marsman in Davao del Norte, while coconut seedlings will be sourced from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).
