Demonstration farms of various genetic materials/provenances (origins) of falcata were established in Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental. It provided information on genetic diversity and structure of various origins and advanced the required knowledge and techniques for optimizing the use of available genetic resources of ITP.
Training manual was produced covering five (5) training modules on seed collection and site selection, nursery establishment and care, land preparation and planting, plantation care and maintenance, and harvesting and marketing. Moreover, this manual and seven (7) brochures developed were submitted for copyright. The said materials were used in the capacity building activities attended by 72 falcata growers from Misamis Oriental and Misamis Occidental.
These valuable insights and findings on the genetic diversity, disease resistance, and propagation challenges of falcata tree populations in Mindanao, had substantial significance for the long-term goal of eliminating underperforming or low quality falcata populations in the region.
