The initiative aims to develop a low-cost drip irrigation kit for onion and garlic that can irrigate an area of 500 m2.
The irrigation system will be consisting of appropriate sizes of filters, mains and drip laterals that can deliver the water requirement of garlic and onion; pressure compensated drippers suited for low pressure and maintains uniform flow rate at different inlet working pressure; and a reservoir that is elevated by at least 1.5 m from the ground to generate adequate pressure to cause water to flow uniformly along the laterals.
