This program aimed to produce paste from Tetraselmis, Nannochloropsis sp. and Chaetoceros sp. paste using culture boxes for indoor propagation and 10 tonner canvass-lined tanks for outdoor culture. It also aimed to develop a pilot system that would demonstrate the feasibility of producing Chlorella vulgaris as freshwater microalgae paste under local conditions and determine the suitability of the algal paste as larval feed. Production will be undertaken in high rate algal ponds and recirculating tanks with an estimated production capacity of 1,200g dry algae or 6 kg of algal paste as well as design and prepare bill of materials for extruder feedmill.
Outputs of the program were: the protocol on the use of microalgal paste for milkfish and shrimp resulting in comparable survival with that of existing hatchery protocols. Ability to produce competitive algal paste locally up to 3kg/ton.
