Government and private sector initiatives for the growth of the mango industry, such as developing policies, strengthening R&D efforts, and introducing S&Ts, have been implemented. However, a comprehensive and sustainable plan of action can enhance these initiatives. The project titled “Changing Patterns in social, demographic and economic condition of farmers in plantation crops production systems: Implications for Agricultural Policies and Innovation” aims to contribute to the formulation and implementation of effective agricultural policies and innovation programs by analyzing the changes in the socio-demographic and economic conditions of mango farmers
The aging workforce and disinterests of youth in farming, environmental factors, and lack of government support are among the identified main issues in the growth of the mango industry. Some of the study’s recommendations include strict implementation of rules on prohibited chemicals and programs on pest management, as well as provision of post-processing technology.
