CSU Aparri Campus: Species Composition and Seasonality of eels in the River Systems of Northeastern Luzon

Dominant species of glass eel identified through morphological characteristics and through initial DNA testing are Anguilla pacifica bicolor, followed by A. marmorata and few A. japonica. Seasonal abundance of glass eel species known. Conditioning and transport protocol of glass eel was conducted with 95-100% survival rate.

Project sites during the sampling period are in Sta. Ana and Gonzaga, Cagayan. Other sites are in Divilican and Palanan, Isabela. The project also formulated recommendations for eel conservation and management in selected areas.Ā  Fyke net is used in collecting glass eel mounted in the river mouth for several hours.
