As the LGU of Bacoor is planning to integrate the mussel industry into their tourism plan and highlight their effort on producing safe and quality mussels, they would like to make the depuration process a mandatory pre-processing activity in producing mussel products. With this, the LGU-based common service mussel depuration facility was pilot tested in Bacoor.
This project was able to test the robustness of the depuration process protocol, determine the financial viability of the operations, develop marketing strategies of the depuration facility, and test the efficiency/effectivity of the mussel depuration operation manual. Mussel samples collected from Bacoor bay with undesirable water quality were depurated and after 12 hours of operation the highest MPN values of Total Coliform, Fecal Coliform, and E. coli were able to pass the Philippine National Standard and International Standard.Ā
The computed IRR for the project is 12.2% greater than the relevant discount rate of 10% which stands for the assumed cost of capital as adopted in the financial projection. Having a payback period of 3.04 years and a Return on Investment of 75.61% showed that the project is economically viable.
