The use of authentic and true-to-type planting materials is one of the most important considerations in ensuring that only those preferred and popular or much-sought cultivars are commercially grown and sold. SSR markers to generate unique DNA sequences for varietal classification are already well documented and widely used in several crops. In support, a study was conducted to determine the utility of the SSR marker kit previously selected, pilot testing as to its efficiency was done using the leaf samples from Guimaras National Crop Research Development and Production Support Center (GNCRDPSC). Results showed that the developed protocol validated the efficiency and utility of using DNA molecular markers as a diagnostic tool in verifying the authenticity or genuineness of seedlings and trees. Therefore can help mango growers in ensuring that they get what they paid for.
