Establishment of Dairy Cattle Foundation Breeder Herd through Embryo Transfer (ET) using Imported Pedigreed Frozen Embryos

PagAsa is the first calf produced through Embryo Transfer technology that used fresh embryo from a Girolando donor cow. The Embryo Transfer project of the Philippine Carabao Center was able to locally produce embryos from their in-house Girolando cow through optimized fixed time AI (FTAI) and multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) protocols. PagAsa was …

DNA Barcoding for Molecular Identification of endemic flora for Sustainable Biodiversity Conservation in Cebu Island Key Biodiversity Areas

This project aims to identify the important endemic flora present in Cebu Key Biodiversity Areas, assess their genetic diversity and population structure through DNA barcoding. Accomplishments include 2 new species identified (Dasymaschalon americaleilalii; Plocoglottis rowenae), and Over 100 samples processed for DNA barcode.

Accelerated R&D Program for Capacity Building of Research and Development Institutions and Industrial Competitiveness: Collaborative Research and Development to Leverage Philippine Economy (CRADLE) Program

DLSU developed a hardware and a system for harvesting and drying lab-lab to make it available for use year-round. The researchers developed the lab-lab biomass as a cost-competitive feedstock for milkfish fingerlings. This involved the design and fabrication of an automated machine vision-based capable of harvesting the algal mat.Ā  Drying characteristics of lab-lab have been …

Evaluation of provitamin B1 as agent to reduce feed cost of practical diet of the nile tilapia and milkfish

DOST-PCAARRD, in partnership with the University of the Philippines Visayas-National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UPV-NIMBB) conducted a feeding trial wherein the project team supplemented benfotiamine in the tilapia’s diet. Benfotiamine is a derivative of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) which improves carbohydrate utilization in diabetic human subjects. Since most, if not all, aquatic animals are …

Pilot test on incorporating the filamentous green algae Rhizoclonium riparium in the diet of Nile tilapia

UPV conducted pilot tests on incorporating the lumot or Filamentous Green Algae Rhizoclonium riparium in the Diet of Nile Tilapia. They evaluated whether or not the incorporation of Rhizoclonium meal into the diet of tilapia in two farm areas increases profitability. They also refined feeding scheme pertinent to the technology.Ā  While lumot has always been …
